Your vaccination appointment
Your GP or nurse will check your vaccination history, discuss what you need based on your age, travel plans or occupation, and administer the vaccine on the day where appropriate. For travel vaccines, it is best to book well ahead of your trip.

- Book early for travel vaccines, ideally 6 to 8 weeks ahead
- Bring any previous vaccination records you have
- Mention your destination and length of trip for travel advice
- Ask about workplace-required vaccines if relevant
- Bring your Medicare card
For occupational vaccines, bring any documentation from your employer specifying what is required, so your GP can check it against your history.
After your vaccination
Most people experience only mild, short-lived side effects such as soreness at the injection site or mild tiredness. Your GP or nurse will let you know what to watch for depending on the specific vaccine.
