Your GP and your hospital team divide your antenatal appointments between them, following a standard shared care schedule. Routine visits, such as checking your blood pressure, growth and general wellbeing, are often done here, while scans and hospital-specific checks happen at your hospital.

If anything unexpected comes up, whether at a GP visit or a hospital visit, your care team will coordinate to make sure it is followed up properly.

Your six-week postnatal check covers your physical recovery, mental health and wellbeing, and contraception if relevant, alongside a thorough check of your baby’s growth and development.

If you are finding the adjustment to parenthood difficult, it is worth mentioning at your postnatal check. Support and referrals are available if needed.

Maternity care is part of the broader family health services we provide, so your baby’s ongoing checks and your own care can continue with the same practice.
