Your first visit

New patients are always welcome at Carindale Doctors. You don’t need a referral to see a GP, and you don’t need to have been here before. Please allow a little extra time for your first appointment so we can take a proper history.

What to bring

• Your Medicare card, plus any concession, DVA or Health Care card.
• Photo ID, especially for your very first visit.
• A list of current medications, or the medications themselves.
• Recent test results or referrals, if you have any.
• Private health details, if relevant to your visit.

Transferring your records

If you’ve been seeing a GP elsewhere, we can request a copy of your medical records so your new doctor has the full picture. Just give reception the previous practice’s name and suburb and we’ll take care of the request. The other practice may charge a transfer fee.

Appointments

Standard consultations are booked into a set time slot. Some visits need longer, so please tell reception when booking if any of the following apply, so we can schedule properly rather than running late for everyone after you.
Telehealth appointments (phone or video) are available for eligible consultations. Ask our reception team when booking to see if this suits your visit.

Before 8am and after 8pm, after-hours fees apply.

• You have several separate issues to discuss
• Skin excisions or minor procedures
• Care plans and chronic disease reviews
• Driver, pre-employment or WorkCover medicals
• Insurance or legal medical reports
• Mental health care plans and reviews
• More than one family member being seen

Same-day and urgent appointments

We hold back same-day slots each morning for urgent concerns. Call as early in the day as you can, and let reception know what’s happening so it can be triaged properly rather than simply offered the next free slot.

Fees & billing

We’re a mixed billing practice. Children 16 and under are bulk billed, as are patients 65 and over for their initial consultation. Health Care Card and pension card holders receive a discount on standard consultations. Where a fee applies, it’s explained when you book, not sprung on you at the front desk afterwards. Payment is due at the time of consultation, and Medicare rebates are processed onsite wherever possible.

Fees vary depending on the type of consultation and your Medicare or concession card eligibility. Please ask our reception team for our current fee list before or when booking your appointment.

Results, prescriptions & referrals

Results are reviewed by your GP and discussed at a follow-up appointment or by phone, depending on what’s involved. Repeat prescriptions generally need a short consultation, and referrals are dated from the appointment they’re issued at, so they can’t be backdated.
