Family planning and maternity care
Whether you are planning a pregnancy, have just found out you are pregnant, or are partway through, our GPs provide continuity of care from pre-conception through to your six-week postnatal check. We work in partnership with your chosen hospital for antenatal shared care, so you get the benefit of a familiar GP alongside your hospital team.

Your appointments
Early appointments focus on confirming your pregnancy, general health checks and discussing your options for hospital care. As your pregnancy progresses, shared care appointments alternate between your GP and your hospital team, covering routine checks, blood tests and any concerns that come up.
After your baby arrives, we offer a six-week check for both of you, covering your recovery and your baby’s early development, and can continue as your family’s regular GP from there.
Booking your first appointment
If you think you might be pregnant, book a standard consultation for confirmation and an initial discussion. If you are planning ahead, a pre-conception appointment can cover health checks, vaccinations and lifestyle factors worth addressing beforehand.

If you are trying to conceive and it is taking longer than expected, your GP can also discuss initial investigations and, if needed, a referral for further assessment.
Throughout your pregnancy and after
Your GP stays involved throughout, from confirming your pregnancy to your postnatal check, so you have a consistent point of contact alongside your hospital care.

- Mental health and wellbeing support available throughout
- Newborn health checks and immunisations continue after birth
If any complications arise, your GP will coordinate closely with your hospital team to make sure nothing falls between the gaps.
