Minor surgery and procedures
Many minor surgical procedures do not need a hospital visit or a long wait for a specialist referral. Our GPs perform a range of procedures on-site under local anaesthetic, including lesion, cyst and lipoma removal, and ingrown toenail management.

Your procedure
Your GP will assess the area first, either at a separate consultation or the same visit, and explain what the procedure involves, how long it will take, and what recovery looks like. The area is numbed with local anaesthetic before anything is done.
Most procedures take between 15 and 45 minutes depending on complexity, and you can usually go straight back to normal activities afterwards.
Booking your procedure
Start with a consultation so your GP can assess what you need and whether it can be done here or needs a specialist referral. Once confirmed, a separate procedure appointment is booked with enough time set aside.

- Mention any allergies to local anaesthetic or dressings
If the issue is more complex than expected, such as a lesion that needs specialist review, your GP will refer you rather than proceeding here.
Looking after yourself afterwards
Keep the wound clean and dry and follow your GP’s dressing instructions. Most minor procedures heal within one to two weeks.

- Stitches, if used, are usually removed within one to two weeks
- Results reviewed if tissue was sent for testing
If tissue was removed for testing, your GP will book a follow-up to go through the results and discuss anything further that is needed.

- Referral to a specialist if further treatment is required
- Records kept with your file for future reference

The area is numbed with local anaesthetic first, so most people feel pressure rather than pain during the procedure.
This depends on the procedure, but most minor wounds heal within one to two weeks.
