Maternity care, alongside your hospital.
Antenatal shared care with your chosen hospital, plus a six-week postnatal check for you and your baby, all coordinated by the same GP.
Maternity care at Carindale Doctors
We provide antenatal shared care in partnership with your chosen Brisbane hospital, meaning your routine pregnancy checks alternate between your GP and your hospital team. After birth, we offer a thorough six-week check for both you and your baby, and continue as your family’s regular GP from there.
- Antenatal shared care with your chosen hospital
- Routine checks, blood pressure and blood tests here
- Referrals arranged for scans and specialist review as needed
- Six-week postnatal check for you and your baby
- Continuity with the same GP wherever possible
- Medicare rebates apply where eligible

How shared care works
Your GP and your hospital team divide your antenatal appointments between them, following a standard shared care schedule. Routine visits, such as checking your blood pressure, growth and general wellbeing, are often done here, while scans and hospital-specific checks happen at your hospital.
If anything unexpected comes up, whether at a GP visit or a hospital visit, your care team will coordinate to make sure it is followed up properly.

Setting up shared care
Once your pregnancy is confirmed and you have chosen a hospital, book an appointment to set up your shared care plan. Your GP will explain the schedule and what happens at each visit.
- Confirm your pregnancy and choose your preferred hospital
- Book an appointment to set up your shared care plan
- Bring your hospital booking confirmation if you have one
- Ask any questions about the schedule at this visit
- Partners are welcome to attend
If you move hospitals or change your mind partway through, let us know and we will adjust your shared care plan accordingly.

After your baby arrives
Your six-week postnatal check covers your physical recovery, mental health and wellbeing, and contraception if relevant, alongside a thorough check of your baby’s growth and development.
- Six-week check covers both you and your baby
- Mental health and wellbeing checked as standard
- Newborn immunisations can be scheduled from here
- Ongoing family GP care continues afterwards
If you are finding the adjustment to parenthood difficult, it is worth mentioning at your postnatal check. Support and referrals are available if needed.
- Breastfeeding and feeding support available
- Contraceptive advice available once you are ready
- Child health checks and immunisations continue here
- Records kept with your family's regular GP
Maternity care is part of the broader family health services we provide, so your baby’s ongoing checks and your own care can continue with the same practice.
